REMINDER MAY 27, 2020
TO: Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students
FROM: Rachelle Ardoin, Oakdale Middle School Counselor
RE: Individual Graduation Plan (IGP)
Your child's success is linked to the plans he/she makes now for a college education or career choice. Louisiana Legislature mandates that “each student complete an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) by the end of eighth grade.”
A copy of your child’s Individual Graduation Plan is included in the end-of-the-year packet, which has been scheduled for pick up on Friday, May 22. The plan will be used to help create students’ schedules and document classes taken every year of high school. It will also be used as a guide to ensure that students complete all courses required for high school graduation and, if desired, the courses required for the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS). Forms will be signed or initialed every school year.
Required core classes for 9th grade have already been filled in on the form. However, you and your child need to select three (3) electives. In the spaces provided for electives, please write and rank your elective choices (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). The 3rd choice will serve as an alternate elective, if necessary. If the student is an athlete, band member, color guard, or cheerleader, the coach or sponsor will let the high school counselor, April Black, know and those classes will be scheduled accordingly.
Please review and sign the plan in the designated space for 9th grade. Both parent/guardian and the student must sign the form. All forms must be returned to Oakdale Middle School on or before Friday, May 29, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me, Rachelle Ardoin, via phone (335-1558) or via email (email@example.com).
Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding – necessary virtues during this challenging and uncertain time.
